I know that we can give them walnuts but how? Is a small crack good? Should I crack it in half? Whats the best way? And do I need to wash them off first? Thanks

Hey! I give mine the already shelled kind, the boys (now singular) used to love them, but the girls gave absolutely NO interest in them. I guess it depends on the gerbil! It's so fun to watch them stuff a nut half the size of them into their mouth! HAYLEY

Crack it so they smell the meat It will take them a while to break in, good excercise and helps keep teeth in trim.

I do the same as doomgerbiluk. Just a small crach in it, and sometimes I crack them too hard, than they have two halves. This way they have indeed to work for their food, like in the wild.
