I seen that carrots were ok to give to gerbils. How often can I give mine carrots? And I buy those baby carrots because my son loves veggies to snack on and they are the perfect size for a five year old to snack on, do I need to cut these into smaller pieces or can I just give him the whole carrot and let him chew on it?

only give your gerbies a small amount of carrot each week, because if you give them too much, it can cause diaorrhea it doesn't really matter whether you put a whole baby carrot in, or cut it up really i don't suppose that they'd mind! ;D lol

Thanks. I may try and give him a baby carrot later today to chew on. Hopefully that will help wear down that sharp little tooth.

i use carrots more when im going away, as an extra supply of moisture (and cause when i get someone to come look after them they dont get a chance to refill the water bottles as often). i just put a chunk in and they'll knaw it for a while.

That's all Max did. He chewed on the carrot for a while and then he preceeded to hide it along with his sunflower seed stash. I swear every sunflower seed I give him he ferrets them away into various hiding places in his cage. I never find them until I hear him cracking open a seed.
