ok so i weighed my gerbils the other day and i didnt realise how heavy they actually are. Molly: Female golden agouti: 98 grams Misty: Male dove: 100 grams I read somewhere that they should only weigh 60 grams but molly doesnt look large she actually looks small. Does this mean they have to go on a diet?

those gerbie weights sound fine to me ;D i personally prefer bigger gerbils because it makes them more cuddly! ;D it depends on your personal preference really, whether you want thin gerbs or fat ones! ;D lol!

i don't think so, one of my gerbils, Ash, now weighs 120g and is 1 year 3 months and he has been illness-free so far but i'm not sure whether it can increase the risks of things like heart disease or can cause more pressure on the joints etc

gerbilforum.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=food&action=display&thread=1136006544\Hi! I've also got fatties. My one male is ~105 g... as he is getting older, I recently transitioned him to a diet that's lower in protein and fats. I also cut way, way back on sweet fruits and vegetables, such as carrots and grapes (giving them as often as fatty treats, like sunflower seeds). If they are actually large, i.e. long in the body, and they are vigorous, I wouldn't worry too much. It never hurts to strive toward the healthiest diet possible, though.
