This topic came up in another forum, and I thought it would be interesting to start a discussion here.
They now make Greenies for small animals, and state on the front that it is safe for gerbils. (I don't always trust that on "all purpose" rodent foods, but it is a starting place). There have been some reports of Greenies for dogs causing death (small percentage, but if it's your dog who cares about percentages), due to impaction in bowels, some say it is because the incorrect size is given to the dog and/or not chewed correctly...could happen with any treat, some say because even if it is chewed it is not digested enough. Product info on Greenies for small animals says to make sure it is chewed correctly.
Does anybody else know anything about Greenies, have tried them, or so on? I'm not convinced of their safety, but would like to hear what others have to say. -Kaye

I posted the report on them in some forums, about them impacting dogs. Like rawhide, they are not fully digestible. And if it's not 100% digestible I will not feed it to my pets.
I see greenies as a very good marketing consept to trick people into thinking it is 'all natural, and good for pets' with it's green packaging, plus the high prices add to it's must be good since it's not cheap.
So whether for a gerbil or a dog, I will not give this product to my pets.
