Will it be okay if I put towels as their bedding? I'm just wondering because I have old towels I don't know what to do with...

No, the fibers are too long and can get wrapped around arms, legs or tails when the fabric is chewed. The safest thing is paper towel, or facial/toilet tissue.

Yeah, even my bunny has a problem with towels.... but my little gerbils love a full roll of toilet paper, or even just a half roll. They also pile up their cardboard in one corner for their bedding, and when the nest gets moved, so does the cardboard!
