Hello everyone.
I have a mongolian gerbil that's a few months over 2 years old. For five days now, she's been sleeping almost all the time - she only wakes up a couple of times per day/night to eat a bit. Even if you wake her up she mostly just lifts her head, looks around and goes back to sleep. She's normally very energetic, agile and she's never been sick before.
Does anyone have any idea if there's anything wrong with her? We can't take her to the vet until monday.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Is she drinking? I ask more because I want to know what can be wrong in case it ever happens to any of mine than in any real hope I can help. Let us know what the vet says. I hope you have a good one.

Hey Matt,
If she is over two years there could be a good chance that she is just getting old. If she is still drinking and eating and the vet doesnt find anything alarming, it may be best to let her sleep and when she is up try to get her to play. Give her interesting things like new boxes, or tubes. If she is tame give her extra attention outside of her cage when she is up. Does she have a cage mate? If so is that one acting weird as well? If it makes you feel better I had a gerbil when i was younger slow down like that when she was 3, but she ended up living another two years afterwords, just was never as hyper as she was prior to it, but in every other aspect stayed healthy and normal! I hope the vet can help you figure out whatever is wrong!
