My spotted dove female is currently pregnant ... This is an unexpected situation .. She is currently housed with a male . But i didn't intend to breed them . Can I put the male in a small cage and put it in the same tank where his "mate" will be giving birth in ? And a few days after the birth can i release him back with her ? Can??? I don't want to seperate them . I have thought of neutering him , but where i live , there are no vets who know or dare to do it on a small animal .... pls help !!!!!

If you want to keep them together then you WILL continue to have more and more pups. You cannot 'not' intend to breed a male and female if you purposly keep them in the same tank. Mom should have Dad along to help her with this birth. Male gerbils make excellent Dads, being her first litter having to raise them alone can be very stressful. Once the pups are born Mom and dad WILL breed again, right after the birth of the last pup. So you will have another litter on the way (the second litters always bigger). When that litter is born keep a daughter from the first litter to help mom out, take Dad and his sons to live in a seperate tank.
