Had 2 3month old gerbils. My son scared One the sisters so bad she had a heart attack. Now her sister is constantly digging at side of tank for past two days which she had never done. I got her a new friend and they seem to love each other, sleep with each other. But my original mrs mousecawhich is still acting strange. Not sure what to do.

Hi,this morning i woke up and found out my gerbil cuddles had passed away. he just turned 3 in late November. i have one other gerbil toasty, and he seemed okay the first few hours after cuddles passed away but now he just seems lonely i can see it in his eyes. there tank use to be in my room but i moved it down stairs so i can always be with him (since im down stairs most of the time) i don't quite understand how cuddles passed away. last week im pretty sure he had a stroke i tried to keep him warm and cuddle him and he'd literally just sleep in my hands. a few days after he seemed fine like he was pretty much all better. then out of no where yesterday he like went insane he was jumping off the toys in his cage and hitting his head on the roof of there cage. then when i took all his toys out he was just jumping off the walls of the cage. he was literally insane. he was trying to escape or something. and this morning i didn't even find out he was dead until like noon cause i couldnt see him. toasty was just sleeping in his bed and i got them new food and put it in there cage then toasty went and got the food and i was saying "cuddles your getting food come get itttt" thinking he was inside one of his tubes or something then i checked everywhere and i couldn't find him. then i thought about how he was trying to escape yesterday and i was thinking could of he gotten out somehow? then i went over by there bed and i just saw some fur sticking out from like under there bed so i pulled him up quickly and dropped him on his little bedding area, i just remember he was cold and week it felt. after he was just laying there so i got my brother and we found out he was gone. i put him in a little box with a little kelnex like a blanket covering him and some of his favortie treats and a little bit of bedding around him. i left him in the box and were gonna bary him in my back yard when we can. its December so theres snow on the ground so it will be hard to bary him. anyways what can i do to keep toasty happy i take him out to play lots but theres nothing he can really do he'll just run around couch or on the ground but theres nothing he can do. so what should i do with him and what do i do about cuddles,

My gerbil Pablo died an hour ago. I went to the pet store to buy food for my hamster and I saw Pablo just laying in his little cage on the ground. He was the last one and he looked so sick. I knew that he didn't have much time left but I took him with me anyway, just to make his life better, even if it was just for a few days. In the two days I had him, he was the sweetest creature I'd ever seen. The only thing he would do is trying to find warmth, he would snuggle in your neck and squeak if you didn't pet him. I hate pet stores so much, they take the poor animals away from their mothers much too soon. RIP sweet little guy, you will be missed. It's strange how much of an impact such a little creature can have on your life.

Hi, so I have three gerbils, two together, and one sadly on it's own. They're young and have are still lively, but I'm worried if something was to happen to the paired couple, would there be a chance I could pair the other gerbil with the other gerbil that was on its own? I would like to know for future reference if anyone has any ideas, I'm not sure. Thank you x

Yes, Gerbler, you can always use a split cage to try to introduce single adult gerbil to each other.
Gerbils don't like strangers and single gerbils don't mix well either other groups (even in a proper split tank) - but two single gerbils of the same sex can always be tried together using this procedure.
You could of course get a friend for your single gerbil now if you wanted rather than waiting for one of your others to pass - that way he isn't alone all that time.

I have twin gerbils and one of them died this afternoon (his name was Tapioca) and the other one (Pudding) seems depressed. Both were male. Do I get a new gerbil or just let poor Pudding die of loneliness. And if I get a new gerbil male or female.

How old is Pudding and how healthy and active is he right now - as this can make all the difference in deciding whether to pair him up with a new friend or friends or whether he is best left alone in his retirement.
If he is much older - it would be almost certainly with 2 male pups or an older single male if you were going to do the split tank introductions with him - but if he was young still then just a single male pup or single adult male.

My gerbils are both still alive luckily and I put my heart out to anyone who has lost there's, but I would like to know just in case one did die, would I need to get another, they are under one at the moment and males, so no pups. What is the age they should no longer get a new buddies and live on their own?

I would almost always get a single gerbil a new friend, with only few and quite specific exceptions regardless of age.
I have bonded gerbils as old as 3 and a half together on several occasions. They love a friend.

Just found my gerbil dead... his bro is still alive and they were really close.Should I get a new gerbil to keep my other gerbil company? The one that died was super skinny...but the one still alive looks very big and strong. They are only around 2 years old and they are males.
