I highly recommend going! I also highly recommend showing your gerbils if you have a chance. It's such a great way to gain experience about what to look for, etc.
I was a TOTAL newbie last fall when I went and I learned a bunch.
Also, I was able to pick up a great male - Abram - for breeding and actually registered him to show before I got him. And he placed! So much fun.

If you are planning to or are thinking about showing your gerbils and are new to showing at an AGS sanctioned show, you should thoroughly read through the information on the show page, including the "Health Info," "Showing," and "Please Read" pages. www.agsgerbils.org/NEShow2009/index.phpThe reason is because there are steps to take, such as becoming an AGS member, strict quarantine and health procedures to follow, AGS registering your gerbils and then show registering them, and instructions for showing your gerbils at the show. You should also be getting in contact with the Show Secretary or Show Organizer for more thorough instructions and steps to take for the upcoming show. Sometimes there is limited table space available, which you will need to reserve in advance. If you are traveling a distance, you also may want to book at a pet friendly hotel.

I am also running the photo contest and raffle/silent auction. There is also two pet classes running that day also. You don't have to be a member to enter the photo contest. It has to be a gerbil picture. It will be people's choice. Also, if you have any raffle/auctions items that you want to donate, email at the address at the ags show site. The same for the photo contest.

I have been to one show and I am entering this show. It is so educational and the atmosphere is so welcoming and exciting. Everyone there only wants to talk about gerbil cuties (and occasionally their rodent cousins) which is an amazing experience. I recommend going even if it just for a few hours. You may walk away with some awesome gerbil merchandise. I got one of those fabulous knitted gerbils- thanks GerbilGal! I hope I see you there!
