Hello, I bought two baby gerbils in October of 2008 at Petco. I picked them out of an "all male" tank. Since then I have noticed that one is larger than the other, and one is definitely a male. I can't tell whether the other gerbil is a male or female, and today, for the first time in the 5 months I have had them, I saw them mating. I have included a picture here in case anyone can help me out. Thanks, Ashlee16star

That looks like a she to me too :[ I would separate them asap. To prevent a litter. Or she may already be pregnant.

Ahhh!! This stinks, and we just built them an amazing new cage. Is it strange that they are 5 months old, and this is the first time that it's happening? Shouldn't they have had babies already?

Yep that is a girl. And no it is possible that she hasn't had a litter yet, because one or both could be slow maturing, but yeah I'd pull her out now and watch for babies.

Thank you everyone for your help. I am going to take the male to the Cornell Animal Hospital to be neutered. It only costs $95. If anyone else has this issue I suggest going to a veterinary school where it is more likely that the veterinarians have experience with exotics.
