I have a typical wire wheel that I cover with paper to make it safe for my gerbils--my gerbils, however, think that the paper is for making a nest with. Is there a way to make them stop chewing the paper off or another way to cover the wheel? Thanks.

Nope.... lol I woudl just give them more paper, cardboard and tissue to keep them interested in that instead of the weel. I have a wheel i had to put cardboard and tape on (a plastic one) because it was eaten up real bad.... even though It only goes in teh tank when i'm home (or in the play pen) they still ate off the paper part....
You will probably have to keep replacing your carboard on it, or replace the wheel to a safer one without spokes.

I have used duct tape before wound around the outside and then sprinkle the sticky with woodshavings you will have to retape it when they chew it though

Thanks. I think I'll make my parents buy a safe wheel for my gerbils. I think they've gone through at least 100 paper thingamabobbers. Doom, I think duct tape (or is it masking tape?) is made of fibers, so that wouldn't be good for gerbils.

Does anyone know a safe wheel that's available online?

Thanks! Do you recommend the first one? If so, which size is best?

Thanks! Do you recommend the first one? If so, which size is best? For my chewers i like the fist one. I can hang them from the sides of one of my tanks, which is nice. I have the larger of the two. The silent plastic one is really nice, not exactally as big as I would prefure but the whole "No Noise" is very nice But I'm affraid to place it in a tank... it cost to much to be eaten in a day

For gerbils, bigger the better. The 8" one. Thanks! Do you recommend the first one? If so, which size is best?

I have a silent spinner also, it works awesome and I keep it in my cage and they dont chew it because they love their wheel so much! but anything else plastic that i put in their cage they chew instantly...the only noises you can hear from it are the gerbils claws lightly tapping the plastic bottom which you can only hear if you try to listen! It is definately the best wheel ive had!

I have the silent spinner inside my youngest male tank now, and I even catch one of them sleeping in it.... lol he REALLY loves that wheel! So far the only problem is it get's moved around a bit, BUT it hasn't fallen over so that's good. I wish they came a bit bigger though

Thanks everyone! I think I'll be getting the first wheel--I don't want to take any chances with chewing.
