I am new to this site and I was looking for a place to ask this question and if I am in the wrong place :-/sorry Anyways I was wondering if there was a better specie to gerbils and if so what would that be? Also is there a big or little difference between gerbils, hamsters, and guinea pigs? Tianna

Well gerbils and hamsters are like 1/6 the size of guinea pigs.
Gerbils love to burrow and will be friendly to you when you tame them. Hamsters will always be somewhat willing to bite in comparison.

I wouold say it depends on your situation: 1) Guinea pigs are larger and require a whole lot more room for a cage. Harder to clean the cage and the inevidable mess on the floor from all the kicked out hay and bedding. They require frequent cage cleaning. However they are pretty docile and friendly. They are usually really good with gentle children. 2) Hamsters are loners. They do not like being disturbed when they are napping and can be a bit nippy. Not the greatest for young kids who don't realize you have to wake them up first before trying to handle. If they were handled when they were young they can be really pretty good with children. I personally don't see much personality with them, as they sleep during the day and run all night long. 3) Gerbils require to be kept in pairs. They are very social and playful animals and usually very inquisitive. I find gerbils are extremly friendly and each has a personality of their own. They don't really "sit still" and can be quite quick. Best for older children with adult supervision who can help catch them if they try to excape. As long as an adult carries the gerbils to an empty bathtub a young child could sit in the tub and let the gerbils crawl all over them with supervision obviously.
