Am waiting for arrival of pups I am pretty sure exactly how long she has been pregnant for. The last few days she seems to be getting bigger so wondered if ya reckon she may be getting close now. Has anyone got any good pics of a pregnant gerbil. Are there any oter sign s i should watch out for

Here's a huge collage I did when Indira was pregnant. Sorry it's so big . It is basically a progression through the final days of her 1st pregnancy (from left to right). All the pics except the bottom right corner are from her 1st litter so the gestation was only 25 days. The pic to the bottom right was from a litter where she was nursing so the gestation was 36 days. How many days pregnant is your female? 1st litters are usually between 24-28 days before they are born. I always notice around day 18 that she is getting heavier - her belly rests a bit on my hand. Overall your gerbil should just look thicker. I hope these pictures help!

That was great thanks really helped. Not exactly sure how far gone she is because I havent long had them. They used to belong to the school where i teach and they had one litter about five weeks ago now and started mating very soon afterwards. I wasnt sure if she was pregnant or not but in the last few days it is so noticable. I reckon she is quite near the end now, looking at your pics. Cant wait. Wiill keep you posted hope I can get some pics. Have seen some of your pics before and they are fantastic. Not sure I am that handy with the camera but I will give it a go. Thanks again

She will make most of the times a new nest and can be very restless when the day arrives.
Queenofthenile, great pictures! How are you doing with your website?

Peter, I haven't even started ;D. I have no idea what I'm doing so I have to talk to some knowledgeable people 1st. I think maybe I will get it done this summer or next, but first I must figure out the basics.

what is she? She looks just like my daddy gerb, Keebler. Him and Ritzie are my first gerbils, and I'm still figuring out the genetic coloring and stuff.

Are you talking about my gerbil, Indira? She is a siamese (light colourpoint black - aa CbCh E* G* P*)

Yes, Indira, she's pretty! That's exactly what my male, Keebler looks like. I was guessing he was siamese. How old is she? Thanks for posting those picts too... they're pretty helpful in guessing how far along my female is with her second litter.

Indira is almost 2 1/2 now. I retired her from breeding one year ago. If you want to see my better pics of her pregnancies, check out my website: www.gerbilbreeding.com/preg.htm

That's YOUR website? I did lots of research before I got my female, Ritzie, and your site was actually the one I got the most information from. It's set out in a friendly reading manner. Did you put it together yourself, or do you have some one else do it? It's a great site, and I visit it frequently as my pups are growing! Your site's been a huge help!

I agree it is a great website with great pictures and information.
Now back to topic, Hayley, If you do not want any more gerbils, I would suggest taking out the male. If you don't, they will continually have babies about every 5 weeks. When you see her pregnant, you have a few days before the litter arrives. You may see her sitting in the nest with her eyes open and heavy breathing.

Yes, the website is entirely of my own creation. All the pictures and graphics are also mine. I decided to sit down one week and teach myself html.
