For all your information. and especialy to the person who left the rude post about my female who dosen't know anything about her or the males she was housed with. I had her first then a year down the road I introduced a male they had one litter. It didn't make it the mother (cuddles) killed it cause we removed the male, because he was already after her. we didn't want anymore babies. Well they lived together for a year and never had any more babies. Then I introduced a younger male. and They lived fine for another year. then cuddles died of old as did butterscotch. And Fidget the young male died a year later after that. So who ever jumped to conclusion about my female being pregnant every day of her life. or as Quoted from wth "Right. Poor female. I guess you consider being pregnant every single day of your life "perfect harmony". " For everyone's information she was Pregnant ONCE. Get a life and think before you jump to conclusions. I hope you all learned a lesson from this. I know I have. Not everyone is mature and can accept animals dying to keep one healthy for being pregnant. I am very hurt from this experience and being attacked. and everyone jumped to conclusions instead of privately messaging me or asking questions. I am in tear's from the way I was treated. But as I have read some of could care less if you hurt a person as long as it saved the life of a gerbil. Hope you all are happy. Shorty

You are in tears from the way you were treated? Excuse me if this seems rude, but...how old are you? Have you not learned how to deal with critiscism? If some posts on a gerbil forum have left you crying, I don't know how you are possibley going to make it to an old age, in the real world. I have NO PROBLEM with feeding (non human) animals other animals if they NEED it, such as snakes. BUT, sugar gliders (even pregnant ones) do NOT need pinkies. I found a great article about SugarGlider Diets www.sugar-gliders.com/sugar-glider-diet.htman excerpt from this article is: "In the sugar glider's natural domain insects are primary to the diet, and when insects are abundant is generally when most of the breeding will occur. Insects are very high in protein, so it stands to reason that breeding gliders require a significant amount of protein in their captive diet when breeding is taking place. " So you see, Shorty, insects such as crickets and mealworms are excellent sources of protien for your pregnant gliders! You don't need to kill gerbils to keep your gliders healthy Plus, don't you think it would cause your gerbil a lot of emotional distress to have her pups taken away at a few days old after carrying them for a little more then a month? Good Luck

I was discusing this with R8ch who has Gliders and she does not feed them pinkies. Apparently pinkies have a high fat content and do not do the glider any good pregnant or not.
R8ch - iam sure you can clarify.
A friend of ours taht has gerbs, orginally got gerbs to breed to feed her corn snake, but she found that as gerbils are desert rodents and not natural prey they wouldn't eat them, she is now buying frozen mice and rats for her snakes, and she is now a kean gerbil breeder and show enthusiat!. I beleive you need to do some more research about the gliders and gerbils natural preditors.
Also for the record here in the UK i believe live feeding of rodents is illegal, wether you are breeding them or buying them, most snake keepers we know use frozen as snake sausages are not palatable for most snakes.

Yes, and my friend that I am talking to on MSN says that a high fat content in sugar glider diets will harm them more then help them As for snakes, I beleive that it depends on the species. I know that a lot of Ball Python keepers feed gerbils, as it is a lot more natural then mice...but again, it really depends on the species of snake that you are feeding. ;DGood luck on making the right decision, shorty...

Gerbils are a natural prey species for several snake species! I don't know anything about gliders, so I cannot tell you anything about that.
But I know that gerbils are used a food for reptiles and some other predators. The same way as rats and mice are used. I'm not against it! I've even fed them to snakes as well when I studied animal care and veterinary nursing. However, I could never feed my own gerbils to snakes, etc. I even never sell my gerbils as snake food. Probably a bit hypocritical of me, but that is how I feel. By the way not all snakes eat frozen dead animals! Some will only eat live prey (when they are used to that). And even the frozen prey is killed at one time.
Shortlilange103, good that you didn't have left this forum! And everyone is warned, I will not accept any language as was used by "wth" in another topic. If he or she was a member he or she would have had a warning! Because that is not the case I will keep on eye on it. I can always block IP-addresses. SO please let us all accept each others opinions and go on nicely! I'm sure we all can do that!

Hey ya'll,
I am new also and have gotten several responses from posts. The posts are from people like us all who care about and love gerbils and want the correct information available. Please recognize Shorty that if they seem to be judgemental or oppinionated then it is how they "choose" to reply. I don't think they are doing it to intentionally slight you. I think they are reacting to the situation. Shorty, you have a right to feel hurt but you do not have to "choose" to feel hurt. For example I felt slighted by a post but realized that they were not mad at me but at the situation at which point I chose to let it "roll off me" and not take it personally. Please don't take it personally. Life is too short to worry about how people percieve you or think about you. There is a lot of great people with a lot of information. If there are a few who are less than nice please ignore it. I again believe that people take the "high road" because it helps them to feel more important or have more knowledge than the person they are slighting.
I look forward to seeing more posts from you!!!
