I was watching the Gerbils scamper around last night and noticed the one Female shove her rear end right in the male's face. and then she tried to get on him and mate with him. except isn't that a lil backwards? I know she is a female cause the pet store told me she hap pups a couple of weeks ago. and she was also getting on top of the other female. Or is she trying to establish domminace. I think I want to name her Dominque. Cuase that's how it looked like she was acting. Silly Gerbil. Shorty

I think she's asserting dominance. I just want to remind you to watch the trio carefully for any signs of unrest. Marking and mounting isn't something to be worried about in itself, but if you hear a lot of squeaking or see chasing (not including the chase involved in mating ), then be prepared to seperate them. These signals can indicate trouble brewing and the potential outbreak of a fight. Since you will be keeping an unstable pairing (2F+M), you will have to be extra vigilant in making sure everyone is at peace with one another. This pairing may have worked before, and it may work this time, but just watch them carefully because the violence can escalate quickly! The split up of my 4 boys was preceeded by a lot of mounting, squeaking and chasing.
