I have an extra bag of rabbit food, and I was wondering if I crushed the food into small pieces if I could give it to them as a supplement for gerbil food, as long as i feed them veggies and nuts as well

I'd say no. Bunny food is(or should be) ONLY hay pellets. The seeds are bad for buns. Also, the balance of nutrients is off. I'd stick to a food for gerbils.
How much veggies do you give them?

I've read in my gerbil book and online somehwere too that rabbit food often has an antibiotic in it and is not suitable for gerbils.

okay, thanks guys ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Actually, I haven't gotten any yet. My sis's biology teacher bought 3 "male" gerbils in a 55g tank the beginning of the summer last year, and they ended up having about 60 babies through the babies, and their babies, and their babies, ect...... they are getting eaten, and its not pleasant. The living conditions are horrible, so I had the teacher buy one tank for ACTUAL MALES, and one for ACTUAL females. There is still a huge overpopulation in there, so I said I would take one or two (of the same sex). I am looking for a good rescue for all but 5 or 6 (which can stay in the science room) to go too, but so far none have room for that many, so they are being given away by the teacher for free, currently. Long explanation short, I adopted a sick one (whom I knew was sick at the time, but I wanted to give him a chance) from my local animal control in june. he passed away in july, and I now have a new set up for some gerbils from the biology room. I do not know amounts of veggies yet tho....

As for veggies-- only one serving a week. And a serving is the size of a pea. Otherwise you can get gerbies with diarrhea-- and diarrhea isn't good in any animal. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Good luck!
And geez. You'd think being for biology and being a teacher... the teacher would bother to study into the animal a LOT to be able to teach about it really well. Yeesh. Oh well.
