My dove gerbil, misery, gave birth last night! I beleive thereare three pups, but I don't want to disturb her to count them. I think they're a bit premature as they're very small, but she's taking care of them. I'll post pictures in a couple days ;D

Congratulations!!! ;D Sometimes pups are small, but I don't thing you have something to worrie about! It is good to give the mother some rest the first days, especially if it is her first litter! But it is ok to watch the pups once a while. See how the mother react, some are bothered, some not!
And....I'm curious to see the pictures! ;D

Yeah, I've covered half of her cage with a towel for privacy. I'm excited...I have another female due any day and three other pregnant girls...well, hopefully they're pregnant...they're all with males

Sweetie, Misery has ruby eyes. I had been calling her a lilac for a while but I knew that she was to light to be a lilac. I compared her to my dove spotted male and she was darker then him, so I wasn't sure. Queenofthenile came over to my house though, and we decided that she IS dove. The father of the pups is an agouti Pied male named Tucker. Unfortunatley, I don't know genetics, so I had no idea what they were going to produce. Queenofthenile worked out my genetics and told me that Tucker and Misery were probably going to only have agouti and lilac pups. I have since repaired Misery with an agouti that carries the himilayan gene and Tucker withan argente golden spotted.

How do they take to a change in mating partners? I would love to try the 4 of mine but if the 2 blacks (both with recessive genes) have all blacks, I would liketo pair them with others maybe if I get into the breeding thing for color or just for an experince for the gerbils, kids, and myself.

They were alright with it. I split caged them for a week and a half, and Hades and Misery were fine once I introduced them to eachother. Tucker was kind of crazy and almost killed the argente female I tried to introduce him to...and this was through the bars! I then split caged him with another female, and they now get along great ;D

The litter that Crazycritter has right now could be anything from all agouti, to including argente golden, black and lilac. It all depends what recessives Tucker is carrying. I can't wait to find out ;D.

So that means that Tucker at least carries p! That means Tucker X Grace will have some argente pups. Very cool because that was what I was hoping ;D. If neither Tucker, nor Grace carries a (or only one carries a), then you should get 50% argente golden and 50% agouti. 2/3 of the pups will be either spotted or pied.
If both Tucker and Grace carry a, however, you will get 3/8 agouti, 3/8 argente golden, 1/8 black and 1/8 lilac. Of course with 2/3 of the pups being either spotted or pied.
Regardless of the rest of the recessives, at least you will get argentes!

It's actually really simple, sweetie, because I worked out all the possibilities for Crazycritter's gerbils before hand. I bet you would actually find the genetics a lot simpler than you think. It actually has required no more knowledge than what I learned from Grade 11 Biology + the research I've done on the web. I can give you some links and try to give you a bit of a tutorial if that would help. Probably the best site I've found for explaining the genetics is www.wagerbils.com/gerbilgenepool.html.
