;DAsha, my Colorpoint slate gerbil (given to me by Queenofthenile) is in labor! So far, there are three pups....I'm excited ;D ;D

Congratulations!! I am excited for you and the gerbils!! I hope Asha and the babies are fine. I am saddened to think that I night not be able to see them before I head to Maine Great job!!!! Well wishes

I don't think the pups are doing very well I can't see any milk in their bellies, and one of them is gone If they aren't nursing by tommorow, I'm going to get KMR

Gosh, I really hope it's just because Asha's a first-time mom. I'm hoping that the other two pull through.

I'm sorry to hear that How are they doing today? Do they have milk in thier bellies? Does this often happen with first time mom's? At what point do mom's figure it out?

You should be seeing milk in their bellies by the time they are several hours old. I always watch carefully and if there isn't any milk about the only thing to do is foster them on to another gerbil (or even another rodent such as a rat, I hear). But keep the pair together, sometimes this happens with first time moms. Not their fault, its just the hormone surge to produce milk is slow--especially since she didn't have a very big litter. Hope things turn out ok...
