Well after some time with only females, my boy friend got me a male and female pair non related. Ive had them a lil over a week now and they are wonderful. Prob being she was already bred before putting them together, she is a lil pear now so it shouldnt be but a few days more till babies arrive. Now a question: will Birch know these arent his babies? i dont want him to reject or cause problems. I cant wait for these babies to arrive, im very excited. Also what do you all use for bedding for the actual nest box? Thanks for any help.

I doubt he will know that they aren't his. As for the tank they are in, I always removed most objects. All that I gave them was aspen bedding for the floor and toilet tissue to shred up for their nest. You want to remove any large objects because pups can accidentally get crushed under them. I gave mom a toilet paper roll to shred up every day to stave off boredom. When the pups were a bit older, she got her coconut back as well.

thanks for the info, they should be here anytime. Maple is HUGE now. i cant wait to see the babies. Im so excited. I took the wheel out since i know she is close, i have a hanging bird chew toy in there, a flower pot with a hole for their room, of course tubes to shred, TP for bedding and a water bottle. Will update when they arrive.

a nest box is a debatable issue i usually give a number of nesting options including a couple of possible enclosed sites (mugs etc) BUT do make sure anythign heavy sits on the FLOOR of the tank so it is unable to fall or roll onto a pup the main thing i give preggers mums is LOTS of tissue so they can build a warm, cunfy nest they will deconstruct and rebuild it many times as far as the pups go the male WON'T CARE male gerbils are usually big softies where pups are concerned , and it makes no odds whos pups they are, they love them

Good info!! Also you might want to consider increasing the protien for the mom. She will need more of it especially while feeding her pups. Plain yogurt, mealworms, crickets, or grasshoppers. Some prefer cat or dog food (the hard kind of course).
I can hardly wait to see the pictures ;D
