Hello,
What forms of controlled breeding are there?
I was reading that the size of the housing will help to control the frequency of matings. This confirms what Andrea had said.
Are there other methods other than separating the pairs?
If I separate, will I be able to reintroduce at a later point?
I want to make sure that all the pups are placed before I get more since, I can't keep all the pups myself. I also know it's harder to place older pups.
Thanks again.

I used the split cage method. Whenever the female was obviously in heat, I'd split them. It's obvious when the female is in heat because the male goes crazy trying to mate. When the female isn't in heat, he went straight to take care of the pups and didn't bother with her much. So I kept splitting and unsplitting the male. I could watch them almost 24/7 though so that's why I got away with it. No guarantees on the female's heat cycle, it was never an exact amount of time or days.
Also it's easy to reintroduce a male and female for some reason. I once took my male out for 2 weeks..seperate tanks and then put him back and the mother didn't care at all.

Excellent!! Thanks for the info. I really don't have the 24/7 but then I could just split cage the Dad after the birth for a day then let him back in and try that for a little while. If nothing else, as long as they are split caged, they will keep eache others scent and not be hard to reintroduce!
