Does this mean you are starting up again? Didn't you breed before, and decide to cool it off for a while? You are also Canadian, aren't you? That reminds me...lets start a Canadian Gerbil Society!!!

Nope..... You have me confused with some one else!! I am from the US and I am the confused one about genetics!! I have never before bred but have wanted to. I started with my first 2 gerbils in June (I now have 8) and I am setting up to breed.

Well, that's great! You're going to really enjoy it. The only tough part is losing pups, which occasionally happens when the mom doesn't produce milk or rejects them. But they are so cute when they are doing well!

Sandy, I think you may have confused sweetie with me . I'm from Alberta and I used to breed siamese, burmese and cp slate. BTW, I think it would be cool to start a Canadian Gerbil Society. Did you know that some of the breeders in Saskatchewan meet up once a year? There are so few breeders in Alberta, I just don't think it would work . I mean, I already know Crazycritter, but I don't think there are many others. Still, I think it would be fun.

Yeah, there are so few of us. There's me in BC (near Vancouver). I seem to recall there is a breeder up in Prince George BC but he or she must not be online much. There's Crazycritter in Edmonton. Are you also from Edmonton? Who is in Saskatchewan? I haven't heard of any others, but what the hey. We are few, but I think we know what we are about! We could set up a web page, get some standards up, set up a colours page, a breeding page, and list available breeders. We could even set up a registry, if someone wants to deal with money and paperwork. I'm not sure that shows are feasable given how big Canada is, but maybe eventually? It would be fun to try. I'd be willing to contribute photos of my colours. We could also link to the AGS and the NGS which have excellent info.

I am also from Edmonton. Ashley Dyer is situated in Saskatoon. She breeds *everything*. (except dilutes of course ) Unfortunately, she also sells for snake food, so her and I have are places where we disagree. There is also a breeder in Regina, but I forget what they breed. Instead of a real show, we could do a virtual show like the AGS did. That would be fun . Of course, with so people it would kind of defeat the purpose. What the heck, it would be fun.

Virtual shows are fun, although if you are a good photographer you can make a gerbil look better than it is, and if you are a bad photographer your excellent gerbil will be unappreciated.
All the same, we should talk Peter into having one here. But who would judge? I don't envy that job!

I guess the 'Gerbil of the Month' photo contest is quite similar to that. I think it would be hard to get it more structured than that . Having it at this forum would also mean I don't get to participate because I'm a mod. Since my gerbils are from superior stock *sticking nose in air and pretending to be arrogant*, it just wouldn't be fair if I didn't get to participate. ;D

Thanks Ryan, I was on the look out for a Burmese and never thought that I would find one around here. I by chance dropped in a pet store with "the feeling" and what do you know, she was there!! I was so please to get her!! I was amazed that I even found her. Yes the Burmese is darker than the Siamese. They are all beautiful though!! The stole my heart that's for sure!

All your gerbils are lovely Sweetie, burmese and siamese are also two of my favourite gerbil colours.
I think it would be a good idea, you and the other Canadians setting up a web site.It would help ppl thinking of getting gerbils as pets etc. Also,it should be fun, good luck getting the C.G.S. going.

Thanks Lydia,
I actually live in South Carolina though. I am a member of the AGS. I am currently working on a website so that I can place the pups I get. I will post the address when I get it.
