i just went to a pet store and while there, i saw a pakage of hemp bedding. on it, it said that it would be good for small animals such as gerbils. but i have had some bad experiances with what pet stores tell me, so im not sure if hemp is ok. is it fine for gerbils? if so would it be a good idea to use it?
thanks

I tried it for my gerbils and liked it. The only drawback was it was fairly expensive.

Yes, I use it! Friends of me suggested it to me. And where I live it is not very expensive, cheap actually! The wood shavings were more expensive! I use it now for some weeks, and I like it! It is indeed a proper bedding, which you can use of the whole cage bottom! What I also like about this is that is does not dust!

That's because your country has saner laws then ours, and the USA. It's REALLY hard to grow hemp here, you have to get a bunch of lisences, and surround the crops in special fences. The production is really cheap, but all of the restrictions the gov't puts on it make it EXTREMELY expensive...so like, a bag of hemp litter here, enough to cover the bottom of two ten gallons with 3 inches of litter...is ten canadian dollars! WAY TO MUCH! Stupid gov't....

sorry ive been away for a while, school is just finishing up, so its really hectic.
i ended up getting a huge bag of aspen shavings for about $5, (canadian) which was a great deal. i was a bit disipointed that i could not get the hemp stuff, but it was the same price for about half the amount. i might get it later as a kind of thing that i could put in in small amounts, for chewing, but not untill schools out.
thanks for all your input, pooky

When I got my first gerbil I bought the Hemp bedding and I loved it but at the time I only had 1 gerbil and 1 hamster then as my zoo grew bigger I couldn't afford it anymore so now I use Aspen bedding but while it lasted it was awesome

I believe it is and that's why it's so regulated

Hemp and Marijuana are basically the same plant, but if you try to smoke hemp, it will just give you a headache. The level of THC in hemp is not enough to get you high, no matter how much you smoke. Actually, if you smoke hemp while smoking marijuana, it inhibits the high and you do not feel it. So, although they're very similar, the THC level is what sets them apart. Hemp is also a lot more evironmentally friendly...you can eat it (VERY HIGH IN PROTIEN), make paper, make clothing, make drinks, litter, etc...it can be used as an alternative to paper in anything, and is REALLY cheap to produce. It only takes a few months to mature as well, and an acre of it produces a lot more usable material then an acre of woods, and it will grow back quickly. It is really a great product, it's to bad that the government and the lumber corporations are making it impossible to properly regulate!
Even hemps closely related friend (haha) marijuana has benefits. When vaporized, there is virtually no negative effects due to the smoke, and no lasting long term effects when smoked or vaporized. It helps clear glucoma, reduces pain in terminally ill patients, gets rid of migraines, helps eating disorder/depression patients, and can prevent an asthma attack. It is even used as an alternative for severely depressed people, sometimes, with LESS negative effects then their prescription.
Haha. Sorry for that little speech...

A few days ago, my friend who discusses animals with me had me over at her house and we were playing with her gerbils. I noted on her nice bedding that didn't pile up over their water bottle and bought some for myself today. Then I looked at the back of the packet...it was hemp and it was the cheapest stuff in the shop LOL! The gerbils love it and the high point is that it doesn't pile up! I'm gonna buy this stuff in the future!
