okay, so I bought these too 'female gerbils' one it seems wasn't female! I'd already separated them as soon as I realised this but too late and this morning she's had a little of eight!
The cage she's in is way way too small for eight pups, but I'm afraid to move them into a bigger one for how the mother might react, yet I fear if I don't move them she'll eat them due to lack of space help!

Oh my! What a surprise. How big is the cage that the mother is in now? I am not a breeder but if it is just big enough, the mother and pups will be alright. If it is too small then something might happen. But if it is too large, the mother can loose pups.
(If i am wrong please tell me, this information is just stuff I've read about on this forum)
Good luck though

Hi! Sorry about the mix-up that you had! Maybe you should go back to the store or breeder you got them from. Most places will take the gerbils and the babies back once they realize they messed up. If they refuse to take them back, and you cannot care for them, you can ask us to post a rescue request on this forum, and perhaps someone in your area will step up to the plate and help. As of now, you need to deal with the current situation. She might eat them. If you have a bigger tank on hand, you should move them. I have moved babies into a larger tank before. You should take the mom first, then pick up the babies with a plastic cup without your scent on it. You should make a nest out of the old nest in the new tank, and have the rest of the tank be clean. If you don't touch the pups, the mom should be fine with it. I had only known the breeding pair for less than a week when I did this, so you should be fine if you follow this procedure. If you have any other questions, just post again and I will be happy to answer any other questions.
