OK just keep her warm, fed, plenty of water, lots of tissue to make a bed etc A few cat biscuits or nuts for protein (beware peanuts which are fatty) Other wise she'll do the rest in most cases. She can cope fine without dad You can handle the pups daily and you will end up with tamer gerbils BUT if she is unhappy about it you may have to distract her first. Most gerbil mums don't mind at all . Gerbil mums feed the pups till around 4 weeks but when their eyes open they will begin to mouth then eat food and a little small seed such as wild bird food is useful as they can handle it easier. Pups should stay with mum for at least 5 weeks but you need to seperate sexes by 8 weeks. Contact the store..many will take the pups of you in this situation (when weaned) or provide food etc to cover the extra cost. Good luck..please read up on gerbil and pup care..their are many good websites but sadly few good books www.gerbilshowsuk.orgwww.gerbils.co.uk Peter, who runs this forum, has a good site too (see link at top) please read up then come and ask more questions

The male will "adopt" the pups. If you have a female it will also help I beleive!

since gerbil are social animals I would suggest keeping one or two female pups with mum Rehome the rest or keep as sepaerate colonys if you have the space.

Hey there Gucci,
It sounds like you where caught off guard. I hope this ends up being a pleasant experience for you. When I first got my 2 gerbils, it was to have them as pups but now , I am breeding them. I just had my first litter and it has been a great experience. Mom does most of the work.
Doom pretty much said it all. I would reccomend as she did keeping at least one female pup so that Mom can have a companion. Gerbils do not do well on thier own. They thrive when they have a companion.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you for your help everybody! It is very much appriciated. I've done everything that has been said and am pleased to report that mother and babies are doing great! I will try to post some pictures of them soon. I have done more research and hopefully now know enough to help her raise the pups. She is a very protective mother though, very! It has been a very exciting experience, it was a big shock, but great! lol. We're gonna keep one of the females in with mother after too so she'll have company. Thank you guys!

Hi everyone, sadly we lost two of the babies over christmas but hopefully the other 3 will be strong and will survive. Apart from that they are all doing well and are growing too.

Hey everyone, the other 3 are all doing very well. They are starting to get fur now and they are getting bigger! I'll take pictures for you if they can keep still for long enough. Thanks for your concern!

Hey Gucci,
I guess I am hearing that things are going well. I guess as I was rereading, it came to me that It is perfect that you have 3 babies. Now you can adopt out 2 and keep 1 with Mom. See things always work out in the end!!
I can't wait to see the pictures!
