Hi, I am a new gerbil owner and I just got two baby females almost a week ago from a petco. My question is how much should they be sleeping? One gerbil is much smaller then the other and she is the one that sleeps ALOT! It's 2pm and I've been up since 6:30 and have only seen the bigger one two times out and even she wasn't out for long??? I have to phsyically go in their cage and move stuff around for them to come out and for the smaller one that means taking out their house for her to come out. Is something wrong with them or is that they are just babies and need lots of sleep? Thanks for any help

I'm not sure of the hours of sleep young ones need. But do they show curiousity, eat, drink, etc?

Yes when they finally wake up, lol. They are a little skiddish of me still but I'm trying to work on that. I have a Jotco (sp?) tank topper being shipped as we speak so hopefully they will be out playing more when they have that too. Just makes me wonder....

If they're new they may be a little shy. They have random intervals so you may not see them when they are up and about. They tend to sleep when it's hot or cold to avoid the drastic temperatures. Nothing to worry, mine are nearly nocturnal because of the hot weather we get here in Singapore.
