Hi all Im now a member of the NGS and received my nibbler. On here to see if anyone will be going to the london show in reading? I have been to mouse shows before but never a gerbil show and would love to enter. The one thing that is stumping me is the show pen, looking at the standards on the NGS website it appears to be a hagen cage but cant find the model it states, anyone have a link or can tell me the name of the cage currently in use. Also out of curosity does anyone actually use the touchwood cages?? They kind of remind me of the mouse maxey cages.
From what I have read previously there seems to have been a poor turn out in gerbils compared to other rodents. Such a shame for these lovely critters. Would love london to be a really good show, im sure I could easily enter 6-10 gerbils myself, mainly youngsters. No guarantee they are any good at this stage though. lol

Hi Emma I'll be there and showing cavies but I might also bring a couple of gerbils to show, do you have to be a member of the NGS? I've shown them before but only at pet shows, I've used the plastic tanks with lids - I don't think they need to be in maxeys but let me know if you find any information further to this. I'll be there Saturday and Sunday, oh and actually Friday aswell to drop the cavies off into their show pens

I'll be going as I am very close to Reading!
As far as I remember from last time, there is one class that anyone can enter with out needing to be a member of the NGS. I might enter one or two into that one for a bit of fun, but we'll see.

We'll be there with Cavies, rats and the hamster, and we might as well bring the gerbils along too lol.
I too have only shown gerbils at a pet show (the same one as Naomir I think).
How easy is it/how expensive to join the NGS? And are we likely to get the membership in time for the London?

I think is is only a very small subscription fee, £10 a year from what I remember. If you want to join, there is a form on the page here www.gerbils.co.uk/gerbils/ngsinfo.htm where you can contact the secretary (Jackie) for info on how you would do that. I imagine it would be quite simple and quick as you would deal with a real person rather than an automated online system.

My membership came through super quick so yours should be well in time for london show. You could always email them once sent and explain you want to show at the london show. The nibbler with the london show schedule in hasnt come out just yet.
You can show in any plastic tank that a judge can get into in your first year as a member, not sure after that but that was the reply I got when I asked. You have to be a member for anything but the pet classes.
Think it will be great fun, Just trying to plan something suitable for transporting them that they cant destroy on the way. Have a litter of right cuties to enter as they will be more than old enough in time for the show.
The more the merrier for showing and I will talk to anyone as well ;D

I have been to hamster shows & I was wondering if, like the hamster shows, will there be gerbils available to buy? I am hoping to find some males you see ! Mind you- haven't spoken to OH about a trip to Reading yet !
