hey again I'm a first time gerbil owner and i have been surfing the web allot about gerbils and stuff about them and i always seem to come back to gerbilariums. i was wondering what exactly are they and are they necessary? and if so how do you build one? (keep in mind I'm only twelve but i can save money pretty easily) thanks

A gerbilarium if I am not mistaken refers to anything that houses gerbils. You can make your gerbilarium out of most tanks used for fish or wire cages. We just call it a gerbilarium because aquarium implies that it is full of water, and gerbils can't breath underwater

A gerbilarium is a glass tank with a wire topper attached to the top. Best to keep them in an old fish tank, 10 gallon per Gerbil with a deeeeeeeep bedding and cardboard tubes, boxes to chew

indeed - you're best bet will be to look for an old fish tank on freecycle or ebay (get your parents to bid for you) You can use a fish tank that is no longer watertight or just that people don't want any more. Then borrow some rubber gloves and the disinfectant spray and give it a good scrub and proper rinse and then it will be ready for gerbils

I use warm water with a tiny bleach in it to kill anything nasty

I would stick to the tank. The topper on the tank encourages them to chew on the bars. Not the best The tubey homes with different departments are too small and can cause territory issues. Best in a tank, deeeeeeeep bedding and they will be happy

Yeah I have a 10 gallon tank for my 2 gerbils that is full of bedding, and even though the cage is sort of small, they seem very happy
