What kind of bedding do you use? If it is Pine or Cedar you need to switch to Aspen, Corncob, or Carefresh.

make sure to freeze it for a few days to kill mites and other bugs.

When you say two cages - are they tanks - ie all glass or plastic. or are they wire cages?

Hay as bedding in the whole tank/cage is not good! It does not absorb the urine enough! BUT, as filling for tubes is excellent! It keeps the gerbils busy! Also good as food (as an extra for the fibers), and nesting material!

Thanks for all your replys been out and brought some Carefresh the only one i could get had to travel to a pet shop 10 miles away the lady looked at me silly when i asked for aspen or corncob obviouly never heard of it There are 3 pet shops in my town and all their shavings dont tell you what they are and have no alternative.Although it looks strang i can see how theres no dust .Hope their noses will get better now and feel better . Will it have damaged them permanantly or will they be ok now i hope so? Had a few problems with them up to now the cages i have is rotastack 2 of them piped together from one side of the room to the other seemed like a brill idea at the time but the ladies went all territial and fighting just 2 of them had to separate one as got a bloody face .Any way i read up on them and realised they dont like being on own so after a while about a week had to reintrudice it a bit of fighting at first but theyer fine now .I also now realise that the cages i have ar,nt that brill seen the one i want today but expensive may be in a couple of months it the glass type . Thanks for your help really enjoy this site learnt alot 2

My Burkie had a nose problem and now she doesn't have a full amount of fur on her nose, just some fuzz. I think it is a scar.
