I have read lots of threads about giving your gerbs sand baths. So yesterday I went out and got some chinnchilla sand from Pets at Home and a bowl. My gerbs are about 6-7 weeks and I was just wondering are they to young and if so when can I give them sand baths. When did you start giving them sand baths. Sorry that there's so many questions, thanks Phoebe x

Hehe, hii I also have a dome cup with sand inside, but I put it on an elevated platform so my pups weren't able to reach it until they were really learning how to jump and do all sorts of things. They are 3 weeks old now .. it's neat to see them roll around in it, they're so tiny! At that age (6-7 weeks) I think that's fine.

Yep! Babies are OK to roll in the sandbath! It is totally natural since that is how they get clean in the wild. If they don't roll in it, put a little drop of water on their back and they will roll, lol! ;D

does putting a small amount of water work on older gerbils as mine just dig in it and their coats seem a bit greasy to me

My youngest is actually the quickest to roll in the sand compared to my 15 other gerbils! As soon as his feet touch it, he makes a circle, and rolls around! It's so cute! When people don't believe me that they like it, I put him in there. *heheehe*

Phoebe, don't be sorry for your questions! It is always good to ask them. And we are all here to tell about each others experiences and to help each other with questions.
Pups can indeed also take sand baths. My first gerbils were kept on sand, so they were used to it from birth. Now they get sand bowls. I leave the sand bowls always in, also when pups are born (not breeding anymore). My gerbils usually did use the sand bath right after I refreshed the sand. And they don't do it all day and night, so for the ones that don't see it, you can also miss it. Most of the times it is a very quick roll in the sand!
