For those who want a cheap way to provide housing for your gerbs, go to your local dollar store and pick up some popsicle sticks and some non-toxic school glue .. i lined the inside with cotton, make sure you get the kind that's super soft & breaks apart easily incase your gerbils get their limbs stuck.

thats really kool i might do that but dont they bite it all up ? If it's cheap and easy to make I don't think it'd matter too much Plus it'd be good for their chuffers (aka teeth - one of my many pet names for stuff)

What kind of cotton is that? I thought all cotton was bad? Is this cotton ok for pups too?

Don't use any kind of cotton/polyester fibers with pups. AFAIK, it is fine for adult gerbils because they will not get stuck in it, but keep things with fibers away from pups.

But I thought all cotton was bad because they could swallow it and it would block thier intestines and die

No I'm not using the one that disintegrates. Just wanna say sorry for even recommending it. Maybe people can just build the damned popsicle house without the cotton. I never heard of anyone dying from cotton but whatever, majority rules.

Sorry Mary, it's not this thread that's getting me upset. Sorry for carrying my anger over to this thread. I really do think it's best to avoid the cotton. I've seen it used with older gerbils in pics and such so I thought it was alright. Plus I tried to shred the cotton I bought & it's different from other cotton as it breaks apart easily. But I think it's best if people just avoid the cotton and make the popsicle house. If anyone needs instructions email me or something.

Well while I agree that cotton is unsuitable, I also know it's a subject that causes much confusion, partly due to the manufacture of so called 'safe' beddings that are available commercially. So I am gonna make some of those houses and fill them with cheap white toilet tissue!! Maybe hide some treats in it too!! I doubt it will last long lol My gerbils will love it Thanks for the idea Bes
