I read in the other post about making houses from popsickle stick and i thought it was a good ideas . The only ones i can find though are in the kids section and they have been painted different colours so would this harm them or should i keep looking for the normal ones.

Well, you can read the label, if it says they use all natural vegetable dyes then I think its OK to keep em, but anything else I wouldn't use...

I'd think that any paints for kids are pretty non-toxic. I'd also say that acrylic paints are ok because they are so chemically inert when they dry (basically they turn to latex rubber).

They do dye a lot of wooden toys made for birds and rodents, but I think I'd still be wary unless I knew what they used to dye them. I'm sure you can find somewhere on the internet that sells popsicle sticks. A simple google search would turn up loads I would expect.

Why not use regular sticks & paint them yourself? I think that would be a fun project and its worth it in the end

Standard kids' watercolor paint kits are non-toxic, come in all colors, and clean up easily. You can go crazy.
