two years ago we got two gerbils one white one silver the white one seems still as full of life as ever but sleeps a little more, the silver gerbil looks older and slower and you can clearly see signs of age etc. is this just a one off thing or do some gerbils live longer than others depending on colour??

gerbils do not live longer depending on what color they are. All known colors have the same estimated lifespan 2.5-3.5 years. Some gerbils may live longer or shorter lives but this is not because they are one color or the other. Some spotting patterns (piebaldism) like those that result in a rumpback will cause death before weaning, usually in the form of megacolon. There are other cases where having double doses of piebaldism leads to prenatal death and absorption in the womb, these pups rarely survive to birth and if they do die within hours of birth.
