Gerbils chewing plastic waterbottle?

So the other day, I noticed that my two gerbils had nibbled some of the plastic off their water bottle. Today, the had nibbled about an inch size hole through to the actual water which was sitting in a a puddle of wet sawdust. Is there anything I can do to stop this happening again? Thanks

It's really hard to find a bottle gerbils wouldn't chew. Try looking through the ones on Amazon or a local pet store to see if you can find any that it looks like it would be hard for the gerbils to get a grip on. Another option is to change the water bottle holder. I got them when when Sprogley started chewing her water bottle.

I wrapped 1/4 inch hardware cloth around one of my plastic bottles (since it was cheaper than getting a new bottle). No chewing since.
