Hi, Some time back I was asking what the signs of a pregnant gerbil were... well, now she's definitely pregnant! Her stomach's size is a huge giveaway.. So anyway, I was wondering, is there any way to tell how many baby gerbils she will have? This her first litter and she's young, but her stomach looks big. Any way to tell? And another question, if she's a slate and the father was a burmese, is there any telling what color gerbils she'll have? Can she raise them on her own? What are some signs right before she gives birth? What are the chances that she'll eat her pups? She's in a room all by herself with none of my other gerbils around, but the nearby rooms are being renovated. Is she going to be okay?? Sorry there are a lot of questions - I would appreciate ANY input you have! Thank you so much!

first of all Congrats second, there isnt really a way to tell how many she'll have but she'll probably have between 3-8 babies 3rd you'll know what color they'll be after a few weeks when they start to grow fur she can raise them on her own and some sighs to know that she's about to give birth is that she'll look like she's in pain and most likely go to a safe spot like in the corner of the tank and make squeaky noises and the chances that she'll eat them are most likely slim, if she knows you by heart and you touch them like maybe a week after they're born I dont think she'll eat them, but i dont know if she'll eat them if your observing her giving birth, she might feel scared and accidentally eat them, also if there shouldnt be alot of noise, it could iritate her

Just some advice... You'd probably get more answers if you'd post in the Breed, Sexing and Pups section. Not many people look down in this section since its for questions about the forum and such...
------
Q: So anyway, I was wondering, is there any way to tell how many baby gerbils she will have? This her first litter and she's young, but her stomach looks big. Any way to tell? A: There isn't really a way to tell. You'll just have to wait and see.
Q: And another question, if she's a slate and the father was a burmese, is there any telling what color gerbils she'll have? A: The only color you can really be sure of getting is black. You may get some slates if the burmese carried a recessive g, but it really depends on the two parents' genetics. Black and slate colored gerbils are dark colored from day one.
Q: Can she raise them on her own? A: She can, but it will most certainly be more stressful than if she had someone to help her raise them (its too late for that now).
Q: What are some signs right before she gives birth? A: Gerbils will get to be their largest right before they give birth. They have very round and tight stomachs. Their movement will be different.
Q:What are the chances that she'll eat her pups? A: The chances are slim. I've only once had a gerbil eat a pup and that was because it was stillborn and the parent was just trying to keep the living pups safe. However, it does happen and it will also depend on how good of a mother she is.
Q: She's in a room all by herself with none of my other gerbils around, but the nearby rooms are being renovated. Is she going to be okay?? A: I'd put her in a quieter room. It will be stressful enough for her to be raising the pups on her own and even more so if she's a first time mom. If she looks really stressed even after you move her to a quiet room then you can also put a towel over part of her tank.
Q: How many days do you think it'll take for her to give birth? A: Depends on how pregnant she is. It could be tomorrow or a week from now. If she's showing a lot, then she's probably due in a few days time.
Q:Does she look very pregnant or only slightly? Neither of the pictures worked because I believe you copied the link from an attachment in an email. You'll need to post them on a website and copy the image location to post an image on here.

Thank you so much! Sorry I posted this in the wrong section - I'm rather new here. There really isn't a quieter room than the one she is in now... Hope she does okay. She doesn't seem too stresses - busy is more like it! She's got a nest and keeps on digging. She is showing a lot. The image URLs worked for me, just copy and paste in a new tab. Thanks again for your answer, any other thoughts?
