I agree, opinions are opinions but some people confuse them with facts. Saying your gerbil is "happy" living in, say, a cardboard box in a cupboard is easy to do. God forbid anyone suggest that their life could be improved! This place can be a breeding ground for harmful myths and falsehoods borne from the desire for human convenience at the expense of unbiased logic. This kind of bad advice (ie. opposing established research) will do better on this forum that any proper research would, because people accept and spread the advice that is convenient. They are especially ready to accept this advice as it alleviates their own feeling of "responsibility" towards their gerbils. "so-and-so said it was ok to use a cardboard box in a cupboard, so it's probably ok, they look happy" "how can this be not enough if they've always had an ice cream tub to live in?" "oh she's never had more than 1cm substrate, she doesn't like digging" it isn't far off.

I think we may have enough experienced gerbil enthusiasts that will step up/in and set things right. But I know sometimes comments are pulled form the board....

We have a lot of members. Most of them have this pretty well sorted out. I get plenty of threads reported to me & plenty of PMs. Are you trying to point out a specific problem? If so, please PM me.
