Hi, I noticed Ritizieann locked that thread and said we should be ashamed of ourselves. I am somewhat puzzled, as it was an interesting discussion, and how many threads don't go slightly off track? One of the last comments on that thread was about gerbils, and if it was getting too off-topic would it not be more appropriate to point the discussion back to the topic instead of locking it all together?
Or was this something to do with causing offense to particular cultures? I would appreciate a little clarification. I'm not complaining or whining, I am just curious. I'm struggling (unusually) to be ashamed of myself since I'm not sure what about.
Maybe I should PM you Ritzieann, but maybe more of us need clarification on what is and isn't appropriate (given how inflamed gerbil related discussions can get with no intervention). Thanks in advance for your explanation.

After many members report it as an issue, and many message me about it, AND when it turns into a discussion about human females (to include things not appropriate for our vast age group) I have every right to shut it down. Especially when I had already edited & warned.
Thanks for your concern, and I hope that clears things up for you.

I'm glad it was shut down, it was turning into something else that made me squirm a little.

I think that the thread broke the forum rules and regulations on several levels, and this is why the thread was stopped. They are easily accessible, if any people want to read them who didn't know they were there. And forum etiquette is that, as much as possible, threads should remain "on topic", and it had gone well off that.
We were lucky that Ritzieann came on and explained why it got closed. I used to be on a big "news forum", and often threads would disappear or get locked, and nobody had any idea why. ;D Newcomers, suprised by this, just had to learn to get on with it, and be philosophic about the whole thing.

Thank you for your clarification. Therefore the discussions over human females were those deemed offensive? I am relieved if that is the case, since I was interested only in reading about Awaiting Abyss's research into animal colonies, rather than the parallel argument with ralfo. I suppose it would be appropriate to discuss a similar issue, if someone were interested, if it were strictly about animal communities (maybe in another section though!) As far as I can see, it was one member who brought up the issue with humans. Edit: I understand your actions on the grounds that members reported the thread. I hope they weren't too traumatized. Another question, sorry! I'm not sure how it was inappropriate for 13 year olds? Was it the fact that a member was commenting about countries where people are Muslim? Meanmygerbils- if we didn't get explanation of these things, I think the powers of the mods would be akin to political censors! (half joking )

(Quotes went wonky, so Oiyou's quote in italics) Meanmygerbils- if we didn't get explanation of these things, I think the powers of the mods would be akin to political censors! (half joking )No, not really. We join forums, having agreed to keep within the rules and regulations, so to a degree we accept conditions that have been put on us with regard to posting. The thread seemed to break some of those, which all posters should be aware of, and some people were concerned enough to report it. The reason I reported it was because I felt it broke the forum rules. If the questions you put forward are concerning you personally, it might be worth PM'ing Ritzieann.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by "concerning me personally" :s All I was asking is which parts of the content was the reason for locking the thread. I could PM Ritzieann, but other posters might find it helpful to know precisely what topics not to bring up, risking the locking of a thread which they felt could be interesting. It is fine if you don't need a more detailed explanation, all I'm saying is that I would be interested to hear one so that I can better keep within the expectations of the mods in future. I am sorry if you don't appreciate this thread, but you don't need to read it.
