Hi everyone , I'm planning on getting a ragdoll kitten soon . I'm planning to change my gerbil/hamster room into a cat room . So i have to change the places of the tanks . Is it ok , to leave the gerbil tanks with the kitten

Bringing up a kitten with the rodents would presumably mean the cat would be learn that they are part of the family, but I would be very nervous of leaving a cat (especially a curious kitten) alone in a rodent room, however good natured and trustworthy it might be. After all your gerbils are the cats natural prey. How big is the room? Can you in some way divide it, or put a large 'run' in for the kitten, providing lots of toys and play area but ensuring it cannot access the gerbils? In addition I would want to be make the gerbil cages as cat proof as possible just in case. That said I don't own a cat and I'm sure the many cat owners on the forum will be able to give you a much more informed answer.

My cat and gerbils seem to get along OK. Their tank has a heavy secure lid on it, and they are never out of their tank unsupervised. I introduced them to my kitty when I brought them home, and though he's curious about what they are, he's never shown any signs that he wants to attack them or anything. My advice would be to introduce the kitten to the gerbils/hamsters; hold them and let the kitten sniff them and get used to them. Scold him if he tries to bat at them or somethign like that. Letting him grow up around them will make them less novel, and he's more likely to leave them alone. Make sure the lids to your cage are nice and secure and I doubt you should have any problems.

I think that it would be okay as long as the lids are secure!
