I had been useing the stuff since the early 1990's, and love it. I've had to stop useing it for I have one (out of 13) gerbil who is allergic to it, and it's cheaper for me to buy one bag everyone can use, then 3 different types of bedding.
I like carefresh because gerbils can burrow in it, it's absorbant, has no harsh smells, and i find it keep the oders to a minimum. It's not the cheapest bedding, but if you are allready using aspen it's not much different in price. Gerbils also like to chew it up to make it mroe fluffy for their beds which is cute. I had thought that it was becoming to dusty, but in fact the dust problem I was having wasn't from the carefresh but from the large amounts of other paper products I give to my gerbils (cardboard and tissue).
I say Give it a try!

I second everything Andrea said. I've been using it with my gerbils and love it.

i say give it a try too ;D it is expensive compared to woodshavings but the gerbs are worth it they also seem to like it more than woodshavings as i filled the boy's tank with carefresh and woodshavings and they only made their bed out of carefresh and their paper bedding and did not use any woodshavings at all as they normally did. so if they approve, i approve! ;D

I tried Carefresh My family are asthmatic and the carefresh was a total disaster. It had everyone sneezing!!!! Whats more my daughter (who's asthma is brittle) had a very severe attack. Personally I won't touch the stuff again! In fact I threw away half a bag of the stuff!!!

I think it is too expensive. I use Good Mews, a paper based kitty litter with some aspen thrown on top to soften it. I find it goes a long way, is hypoallergenic, doesn't stain, and the gerbs like digging in it once it loosens up a bit (which it does in a day or two). It expands as it loosens, too.
