Hello! Okay has anyone heard of Woody Pet....a bedding made of pine, fir and spruce but processed to remove 99% of toxins, tars etc...they mainly push the allergy and respiratory problems that do not exist with this product instead of the other toxin problems... is liver disease form pine? anyway it is in a granule form www.woodypet.com (originally a horse bedding) tell me what you think... thanks! It looks interesting but I am concerned about the remarks that it needs to be damp to prevent dust forming. I suggest you e-mail the manufacturer and ask for a sample, enough for one tank, so you can review the product and let us know how good (or bad) it is.

hmm, it says that it turns to sawdust when it gets wet which would worry me as sawdust isn't meant to be good for gerbils

Yes that also means they are using some kind of glue to keep the sawdust together. Is it non-toxic? Probably not.

Thanks everyone for suggestions and concerns. I think I will try it because it is a kilned dried pine product. I have read several forums and posts containing positive reaction to "woody pet". The sawdust is described as sawdust like but heavy so that it does not produce dust...of course it would have to be removed I would think within 24 hours so that its new form will not fly about once dry...... The negative reaction is usually those who do not want to try it because it is a pine by-product....which is cool and I perfectly understand....I also find this article on a post that might interest some: www.geocities.com/heavyhitter1.geo/Pine.htmlthanks once again! Seidean ps you guys are the nicest gerbil forum I have find!
