how many gerbils do you/have you had?

So I have only had two gerbils.

I got Amy and Leela in January 2013. I lost Amy this month. Leela is about 18-20 months old.

1. Amy loved to destroy cardboard, run super fast and loved to explore. She was my super brave girl and was fearless.

2. Leela loves to chew wood and some cardboard and she loves to burrow in pillows and under my shirt. Leela is more cautious and seems to test things before leaping.

I can't imagine life without gerbils. They are the most entertaining enduring sweethearts and I am amazed by their unique personalities.

I'd love to hear about your gerbil experience and their personalities.

I've had six gerbils:
1. Peanut was my first gerbil. She's somewhere around two years old now and has always been stubborn, cautious but also reckless sometimes, and her main interest in life is destroying everything she comes into contact with and eating, but I love her.
2. I got Pebbles as a companion for Peanut when she was a few months old. Sweetest little gerbil, very friendly and the type of gerbil that when I had friends over they liked her the best cause she didn't mind being held and such. She was like a little angel that was Peanut's good-side or something, but she died after a year from an unknown sickness.
3. Got Puddles as another companion for Peanut. She was also sweet and friendly but I didn't get to know her much as she got an ear tumor-like thing which required three weeks of vet care during which I never saw her. After that she seemed somewhat different when I got her back, but still very friendly. Then she got an internal tumor and died a few months after I got her.
4. Paisley, along with her sister Pixel, was Peanut's next buddy. She must have been sick when I got her though cause she died in the split cage a few days later, from how long I had her though she seemed friendly and kind of reserved, like Peanut, just more friendly.
5. Paisley's sister Pixel looks almost just like Peanut and is the sweetest little thing, just like Pebbles. Very docile and perfectly okay with letting me pet her and though we haven't gotten to the point where she enjoys (like I said she's sweet so she puts up with it) being held but we're getting there.
6. Peppermint is Pixel and Paisley's sister who I got after Paisley died. Friendly and docile, but more like Peanut in that she's a rascal and loves to chew (and destroy) everything. Her field of expertise (also like Peanut) is escaping.
Leela sounds like a lovely little girl, and I'm sorry to hear about Amy!

We have four gerbils, they are all still with us.

1. Sukie
We got Sukie in Sept. 2012 from a rescue, where she had been for around 6 months. She had been on our own most of that time as she had fought with her sister. Sukie is the most fantastic gerbil and we love her to bits. She has always been quite laid back, but with a very cheeky streak - she was a master of escaping from the playpen when she was younger. She became super-friendly once we introduced her to other gerbils and now that she has become a bit of an old lady (she's got white hairs on her face and tail), she is has really bonded with us and will groom our hands whenever we take her out. Her cheeky side still remains and she loves trying to destroy our remote controls, and she is also quite the pumpkin seed-fiend - her personal record is grabbing four at the same time before carrying them off to the store!

2. Rose
In June 2013, we got two pups to introduce to Sukie as she kept on showing signs of stress. We got Rose and Becki at 6 weeks old from a local breeder. The split worked very well, however there were already some problems with Rose showing some very dominant and sometimes aggressive behaviour (which is quite unusual for such a young pup). This has continues and Rose is definitely the 'bossy' gerbil. We eventually had to remove her from our trio, as she kept on fighting with Becki. She will headbutt everything if she doesn't like where it is. I keep on finding bruises all over my legs whenever we've had her out on the sofa for playtime! She is also doesn't like being held, but will quite happily shoulder-surf you for ages. She also loves chewing - we usually count down from 3 once we put cardboard in her cage, and she is always on the case before we get to 0!

3. Becki
Becki is Rose's half-sister and still lives with Sukie at the moment. She is quite small, but definitely the most hard work out of our gerbils! She loves adventure and seems to have no sense of fear. She will regularly jump off the sofa when out for playtime, and sometimes even out of the cage when you open the lid. She gets really restless and nervous, particular in the evenings, and will sometimes hang off the top bars bin cage, so we have to take her out for playtime a lot. She loves tunnelling, but weirdly is not really interested in food or most treats, she'll usually just climb up your arm at feeding time!

4. Emmy
We got Emmy in January 2014 as a new friend for Rose, after we had to remove her from the trio. Emmy was from a big pet shop and the only gerbil left. The staff there couldn't handle her at all, but with us she has made massive improvements. She is still quite shy, and sometimes will suddenly nip VERY hard (she broke through my fingernail once), but we can now pick her up and she is not scared of our hands anymore. She also loves chewing and has been starting to headbutt sometimes (probably learning from Rose!). She is tiny and has barely grown since we got her, but she's very adorable and has the most amazing silky fur.

My total is 12, counting the babies one of mine had a few weeks ago.

My first gerbils were Teddy and Dart. They lived to the old age of three years. Wonderful little critters! They were always so sweet and got me interested in rodents as pets. I have now had/or have mice, hamsters, gerbils, and rats because of them.

I rescued Timmy and Ruby from a family that didn't want them any longer. They are sweet little old brothers.

I took in two gerbils, Petunia and Theodore, that were being abandoned by a renter. We realized right away they were a boy and a girl and separated them, but we were too late. Petunia gave birth to six lovely pups, one of which sadly passed away, and I named her Coco.

I have two female gerbils from an accidental litter my friend had. Their names are Skittles and Gumball.

I have two little lady gerbils. Their names are Mathilda and Grace Jones. As I got them from a pet shop, I don't know their exact age, but we believe them to be around 4 months old now. They are our first gerbils (but it didn't take long to fall in love with them!). We're so glad to have them with us.

Grace Jones is an agouti gerbil. She is the more anxious one out of the two sisters, and can be quite skittish. Which is why she always melts my heart on those rare occasions when she will sit on my hand while nibbling a pumpkin seed. She also loves to nip my fingertips, trouser legs and even my nose if given half a chance!

Mathilda is quite a beautiful little "rat" (we think she's a polar fox??). She likes blueberries and lots of attention! She's also very good at pretending to be a meerkat. Mathilda sometimes has her brave moments, when she will sit with me on my lap, or when she runs up and down my arms.

Both of them love running around and exploring their playpen, but also have days on which they are scared of their own shadows.

I have had 8.

My first 2 were store bought, Izzy and Meredith Grey (Argente and CP Agouti)but unfortunately caught a very aggressive RI which took them within 36 hours of catching it despite vet intervention.

I currently have 3 females from one breeder, Bailey, Christina and Lexi Grey (Black, CP Slate and Sp CP Grey)
and 3 males from a Czech breeder. Owen, Richard and Preston (DEH, Sp Black and Agouti)

They are all between 3-5 months. The girls are all sisters and the boys are twins and a similar aged pup from another litter. They are all going through their first molts.

Owen and Christina are the dominant gerbs in their respective cages.

Ive had/have 2 Gerbils i got my two boys in March, 2014 ;D so im fairly new to the world of gerbils but have done ALOT of research.
1. Sooty, hea a black Gerbil. Hes very skittish and extremely fussy when it come to food ;( hes a pain to tame but im working on it ;'D hes about 3 months old ;D hes very fast aswell!
2. Hugo, i believe he is a Light ColourPoint Agouti or Grey Agouti but im not sure. Sooty and him are brothers but Hugos alot more tamer he's like to crawl up my arm where-as sooty see's if i have food and then goes. Haha.
They both love to chew cardboard ad shred tissue. Also, when i clean them out, i make their cage look all nice and then they bury everything they can! Haha love them both tho ;D xx

In my life I've had 4 gerbils:

Sooty and Sweep: Sooty and Sweep were my first ever gerbils. I don't have much memory of them as I had them when I was four and they died when I was six so I don't really have much memory like I said, but they were both pitch black and the only way you could tell them apart was that Sweep had one white toe. Other than that you couldn't tell them apart. ❤️?

Blitzen and Cupid: Blitzen and Cupid are my current gerbils that I have. They are MY OWN PETS and they are one years old. I have had them for three years at the end of November. Unlike Sooty and Sweep. Blitzen and Cupid are very easy to tell apart. Blitzen is brown and Cupid is White. I love them with all my heart and wouldn't change them for the world ❤️?

I have had 7 gerbils, 2 of which I have now.

My first pets were gerbils, when I was at primary school. They were named Billy and Bertie then came Marvin. Years later I adopted Ruffles and Michelle. Now I have Richie and Eddie.

Apart from Billy and Bertie who were agouti, all my others have been white!

I have had many different species as pets but always seem to return to gerbils! They are such sweet, funny little critters!

Ummmm... I'm gonna ballpark it somewhere around 300, if I only include gerbils I named and kept past the pup stage. 1994 to present.

I have currently got 30 - including 3 new litters of various ages.

I tend to bubble along at about this amount - although I did have 65 at one point...

I haven't actually totalled it up since I restarted gerbilling in 2011 - perhaps I will check my notes.

Counting the babies just born I have 23. I'm sure I had that amount, or there abouts, 20-ish years ago also.

Update on my gerbils status, I've had 21-24 gerbils total, depending on if I count the ones that only lived here for a few days.
And currently I have nine girls.

I have two gerbils currently, and they're the only ones I've ever had.

Felix I got from a rescue when he was 4 months old. He's my little sweetheart.

Boris I got when he was 5 weeks old, a few months after getting Felix. He's the complete opposite of his mate but I love them both dearly.
