My gerbil, Sparrow, is making a sort of strange sound...kind of like deep squeaking. Is this anything to worry about? She is acting totally normal except for that.
Thanks.

Is the sound just constant, or is she doing it in a certain context, ie when you pick her up?
It's possible that she has a respiratory infection. This would be serious and she should see an exotic vet and receive antibiotics if it is indeed a respiratory infection. You would also need to eliminate whatever caused the infection; such as dusty bedding.

One of my boys (not sure which) did this last night. I've never heard it before and he only did it for a few minutes and hasn't since. They boys all jumped out of the nest and started thumping at the same time. The best I can describe it is it sounded like he was crying, like a 'waah' type wailing. I don't know if it was just because he was spooked or what, but I've never heard him do it before. Afterwards he was quietly squeaking with each breath and I thought he'd got an RI or something, but then after about five minutes he just shrugged it off, stopped making any noise, and went back to normal. I have no idea what it was all about - I think maybe he had a nightmare?

my gerbil makes a chirping noise but only when she is in heat, esp. as it gets later in the day, as long as it does keep going on, then I wouldn't worry too much.
