So yes I have recently tried to breed my gerbils for a while now. I see them mate a lot, but the problem is 2 weeks after mating I see my female Lightning get a big bigger then one day her belly shrinks and is normal size again. Is this bad? this has been happening for a couple of months now. Should I take them to the vet? or is it because Lightning is either to old or not able to produce pups? or is it her mate shadow who iv raised from a pup that is unable to produce sperm?? need help please im confused. other then that they seem healthy and happy

I'm probably unable to answer your questions since I'm not experienced with breeding but it might be helpful to state how old they are?

Sometimes it takes forever before gerbils successfully mate. My pair lived together for one whole year before their first litter arrived and they were already 6 months old when I acquired them as a same sex pair (the breeder didn't sex them correctly). They went and had two litters back-to-back before I separated them into same sex groups with their pups. Hopefully mother gerbil isn't pregnant this last time!
