I need your help. Does anyone have any proven info on pine giving out oils. Do any of you know of scientific write ups on the subject. This is to settle a discussion on a snake forum but I am also very interested. I have always used pine for my gerbils for lots of different reasons and have had no problems but they may soon be getting put on to aspen. Thanks for the help.

I've found that this is a hotly debated topic on most animal forums, I found this article www.afrma.org/rminfo2a.htm which was posted on a rat forum but given that it's nearly midnight I'm too tired to do an in depth search so apologies . Note that the article is taken from a US site and I believe it is refering to sawdust rather than shavings and I am some what of the opinion that UK pine shavings (not sawdust) are ok for gerbils as we tend to use spruce...or something along those lines.
