Awh. I hope it works Instead of thinking that they are bored, think of how great it'll be when they are bonded together It'll be worth it for you and for them

Thanks @gerbillover9612 ! I'm sure it will be worth it. I just don't know how long to wait until I try letting them meet. There has been zero signs of aggression and they are sleeping in each other's nests when they swap sides.
I am thinking of adjusting the screen divider. Right now I gave a double layer of 1/2 x 1/2 inch 14 gauge. I am thinking of reducing it to one layer so that they can touch and sniff a bit better.

HI Snoballandnugget. I just love your split. It looks fantastic. I really was a mess worrying about their boredom but just keep focused on the end result. If you do try them and it doesn't work wont despair. They will just need more time. I am so happy that you found the info posted on here helpful. I am hopeful that in the future we will have some new mods that will be willing to put effort into putting stickies on some really helpful posts and topics. Keep us posted and Keep encouraged!

Aw, well thats definatley a great sign! I have never had to do the split cage method as the two boys i have atm are the first gerbils i have owned, very sorry i cant help It seems as if you are doing a fantastic job atm, i think its brilliant how the tank it set up yeah maybe changing it too just the one layer will help in the process but like keldamouse said, if it doesn't work, dont give up. If the one layer doesn't work or gets them stressed then go back to the 2 layers so sorry im not very helpful in this situation as i havnt have any experience. Aha i hope it all goes well with the split. Also how did you make the split screen thing <3 xxx

So yesterday I got up early to remove the screen and see how things go. I have a three day stretch off from work so it was good timing. I took the screen out and they were fine!! Then they continued on their day... They napped separately throughout the day but then finally in the evening Chachi would stand guard while Fonzi slept. Then finally around 11pm Chachi curled up while guarding and went to sleep!! So now begins the reintroduction of the toys! ! Thank you all for your valuable information about introducing new gerbils!!! For those who have introduced new tankmates; are what frequency did you re-add the toys? One a day??

Aww these two look sweet together! Yh split cages are excellent! Even when it says online not to pair an older female & young male, mine got on after about a couple of weeks & niw sleeping & grooming together! gerbils are too social and crave one another so even if it takes months gerbils of any age will get along eventually. xxx
