Hi, I recently bought a gerbil a couple of days ago at Petsmart and she's very active and curious. She seemed to be pooping just fine when I cleaned up all her normal looking turds. But today her poop came out with a string-looking thing in it. It looks like normal poop, but there's three pieces of it on a long-ish string. I feed her the kaytee fiesta mix and she seems to be completely fine in terms if behaviour. Yesterday she was going near where all the cables were when I let her out and I accidentally (but very gently) grabbed the base of her tail. Please help! Is this normal? Thanks

Hey, there's a gerbil food masterlist here that lists Kaytee Fiesta under 'not recommended'. I'm not sure what has caused the poo problem, but you will probably want to switch brands regardless. Did you only get one gerbil? I hope it was just weird poo and that she's okay, but I would keep an eye on her and seek vet care if you're worried.

And thanks for the advice, I will get new gerbil food soon. Here's a picture of said droppings.

Update : a couple hours later, her poop looked normal. She pooped several small droppings stuck together at the same time, and another that was just one little round piece. She peed on the same spot.
*sorry for the graphic details but i want to ensure that she and her sister live long lives

I'm not seeing the photo but it was probably diarrhea from being stressed from the move and a switch of food. Don't worry about it unless she starts to loose weight or it continues for a few days.
