i don't think i can get chinchila sand in malaysia, wat sand i can use? can i use the normal sand from river, wash it n dry it?

the normal river sand is difference? i never see this sand b4,,,, cos they r not much chinchila here... okthis weekend i will go to those big shop to see if they hv..

you can also use bird sand, but gerbils don't like to bathe in it because the sand grains are too big ;D

I don't see why not, if you use river sand the grains have been rounded by the water so it would be good. But it would be a good idea to sift it, wash it well and then oven dry it to kill any organisms in it before using it for your gerbils.

yes i am thinking to wash n dry the river sand, n get the very fine type.... don't think we hv bird sand, we shower the bird here with water.. i think bird sand is more hopeless here than chinchila sand so means the best is still the chinchila sand right? its like sand or its like powder?

I gave my boyfriends brother 3 gerbils, and he purchased a bag of play sand from the hardware store for them. It's not construction sand, it's the kind that says it's starile for a kids play pit. I swoosh it in a cup to let the dust go, then I give it to my gerbils. It's a little bit heavier than Chinchila sand, but Sparky II loves is just the same, and he's my little bather! Pretty much if he likes it, then the other gerbils will too! lol

hmmmm ok if i canot get any chinchila sand i will try to wash the fine sand n dry it for my gerbil. hope they will like it.
