Hi came home tonight and heard thumping under the floorboards and new instantly one if my gerbils had escaped. After four hours of pulling up a floor board and waiting patiently with food I managed to get her. Thank god she is tame ! Anyway I thought she couldn't of been out long as I was sure I would have noticed but when I put her back in her cage she drank for ages so I am worried she may of been out for longer then I thought. She has also lost half her tail but otherwise seems fine. I found a hole that had been created between her wire lid and the wood so now all is safe again. My worry is that she may not be safe from her mum who she lives with if they have been parted for too long. So far loads of grooming but lots of intense bottom smelling but no aggression as yet. Am I safe to go to bed I am exhausted but don't want to wake up to dead gerbils

I once had an fugitive gerbil hiding behind a heavy bookcase for almost 20 hours. I had no problem reuniting her with her cagemate. I also saw lots of water drinking, and sniffing - but no aggression.
