Hello,
Yesterday morning I woke up and my gerbil was clawing around her private area and acting super crazy and hyper doing summersalts and stuff. There was blood all over her stomach. I kept an eye on her and every time I checked more and more hair was missing from her belly and there was more blood. I was getting really scared by then, and I know you aren't supposed to give gerbils baths, but I gently used water to wash out the blood and possibly see what was going on. I got most of the blood out but still couldn't understand what was wrong. I was afraid she was going to die of blood loss. Today, she hasn't been scratching much and there is no fresh blood, but she is acting lethargic and she stinks. She is around 2 1/2 years old so she is starting to get up there. Any ideas what could be wrong? Do you think she will survive? Suggestions? Ask me anything too. Thanks.

she could have an infection and should see a vet to see what is wrong and may need antibiotics. Is it her scent gland or her private parts? she could have a tumour at either place. Gerbils can bleed a lot and be fine but if is she lethargic then something is wrong-try to hand feed her and make sure she is drinking as she may dehydrated, too.
Take care,
Tammy

Take care, Tammy I can't afford to take her to a vet and it is quite a ways away. It's her private parts not the gland on her belly. She is acting for the most part normal, eating, drinking, and chewing up cardboard. I'm hoping she will heal. Thanks for the advice!
