Thinking of connecting 2 aquariums using dryer vent hose. Has anyone done this? Can the gerbils chew through the hose? What is a good way to make it secure into wire top.

Stay away from the less expensive vinyl hose - they will probably chew through it and possibly escape. You can buy a semi-rigid aluminum dryer vent hose. The also sell an aluminum collar/flange that you can attach to the hose with hose clamps.

Dryer hose dia. is 4in. So I think PVC tube would work better. If I used PVC tube, what size would work?

I have Critter Trail pipe running inside Aluminum dryer pipe just in case they chew thru the Critter pipe. I also have 1-3/4" PVC pipe for tunneling in the play/main area. Look at the photo and you'll see where they have chewed the PVC.

I got a Kritter Trail kit. I thought that they would be too small, especially the curved 1s. I like your idea of putting the tubes into another tube. For the main goal of these Gerbils, which I adopted, is to escape.
