So i was wondering if i can hang fleece and ropes items in the gerbils cage? like a fleece/cotton tunnel or rope for them to climb on? or would it be unsafe if they chewed it? they have had a tug and gnaw rope before and i always kept and eye making sure they didn't chew it because i panicked incase they ingest some and it got tangled but i woke up one morning and it was shredded to pieces but they were both fine. however, would like a bird rope and such be safe? xx

I've heard of gerbil's claws and legs getting stuck in fleece and cotton. I think the rope would be fine. Don't really know for sure though. . .

Ahh yess, thats a good point ill avoid the fleecy items then. i have seen some people using like rope things for gerbils but im worried they'll chew it and it'll get tangled in them so i thought id ask first ;D thankyouu tho (btw, just letting every know when i say cotton i dont mean like the fluffly bedding stuff i mean like duvet material ;D) xxx

I wouldn't put fleece or rope in the cage where the gerbils live and sleep; but in the supervised play area they would be fine. I've read stories about limbs and toes getting entangled resulting to amputation. Be careful with rope - often, it's very oily from the manufacturing process. Bird-safe rope toys would be the safest bet - again, in the gerbils' play area only. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Arwen (F) and Eowyn (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper Goldberry (F) 11/12/2011 - 20 gallon with 20 gallon topper
